WASHINGTON, D.C., May 8, 2024 — Americans for Responsible Innovation (ARI) is pleased to announce former White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) senior official Satya Thallam has joined the organization as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. Thallam is a key addition to ARI as the organization seeks to expand its engagement efforts with U.S. policymakers on the responsible governance of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.

A political appointee at OMB in the Trump Administration, Thallam brings significant regulatory, legislative, and interagency coordination experience to the group. He also served as a senior advisor and Chief Economist to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. He joins ARI from Arnold & Porter, where he served as a Policy Advisor.

“We are at a critical moment in how government responds to the rapid development and adoption of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence — one that will shape the future of U.S. and global policy for years to come,” said Thallam. “ARI recognizes this, which made the decision to join the organization an easy one. I look forward to working to ensure our federal leaders understand the responsibility they have in both nurturing and safeguarding our country’s AI future.”

“As lawmakers place greater attention and emphasis on addressing the myriad ways AI is intersecting with public policy, Satya couldn’t be joining our team at a better time,” said ARI President and former Congressman Brad Carson. “His experience in the White House, on Capitol Hill, and in the private sector give him a unique perspective on the scope and reach of this issue, and we are thrilled to have him on board.”

ARI, a nonprofit policy advocacy organization focused on AI and emerging technologies, launched earlier this year. The group recently led an effort calling on Congressional Appropriators to fully fund the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) fiscal year 2025 budget request alongside 90 industry, civil society, nonprofit, university, trade association, and research laboratory groups.
